This blog has many purposes. One, it lets parents view what is happening with their children at school. Two, it is reading and writing material for my kindergarten students. Three, it is inspiration to other kindergarten teachers since I have been motivated many times by what other teachers have set up on-line. ENJOY MY BLOG!!!

Children's Author Eric A. Kimmel Came to Town!
Eric A. Kimmel is a prolific children's author. He has written several Anansi the spider books. One of our favorites is Anansi and the Moss Covered Rock. Mr. Kimmel encourages children to read. He wants my students to each read (listen to) 20 books in October which gives us a goal of 520 books since there are 26 kids in our Kindergarten room.
Dianne de Las Casas is another author who encourages students to read. She is a local author.
We WORK HARD but we PLAY HARD too!
Play is a great time for children to learn basic skills of life such as thinking, socializing, mechanics, science concepts, spacial intelligence, etc. I could go on and on. Parents control the types of toys that come in the house. Monitoring for educational toys is great!
We READ and WRITE every day!
Reading and writing are not natural for survival skill learning. However, in today's world, successful people know how to read and write well. If you teach your child one thing at a time, reading and writing will become natural for them. It's a slow process and it requires lots of hard work and patience and guidance.
We write in our journals.
We read small books.
We identify the beginning sounds of words.
We find letters and words in print.
And we ENJOY books then talk about them!
WAYS TO MAKE 4 with our fingers. Look how creative!
Math is not always paper and pencil facts. Math lessons teach children to think out of the box. Involve your child when you go shopping and when you make store payments and when you measure for a table cloth and when you are cooking.
Psstt. Many high paying jobs require lots of college math classes. Your child's income may depend on their success with mathematics. =)
Kindergarten Palentologists! Digging up bones!
Our class is studying dinosaurs. We all got to dig in the rock and sand to look for dinosaur bones and we painted dinosaurs too. Herbert made a dinosaur book at home to share with his friends. The class loved his book. Thanks Herbert!
Can you find another interest your child might have? A good place to begin this search is at your public library!

Science... EXPLORING THEORIES of Why Dinosaurs Died
Students have been reading dinosaur books at home. We held a discussion about why the dinosaurs don't roam the earth any longer. Answers included: The volcano got them. Fire balls fell down from heaven. The earth was too cold. The dinosaurs ran out of food. Their eggs froze.
I told the students to thank their parents for reading about dinosaurs to them. Lester said, "Actually, my mom read this information to me off the Internet, not from my dinosaur book." How could I forget we're in the age of technology?!
FIREFIGHTERS Visit Our School
Please explain to your children the dangers of matches, ovens and stoves, lighters, and electrical sockets. Also, discuss an exit plan in case of a fire at your house. Even though the fireman might look scary, he is there to help. Make sure your child knows this. =)
Look at our little FIREFIGHTERS!
PAJAMA Night At School? Yep, we did it!
Here are some pictures of room C-11's storytime night at school. The children will never forget coming to school in their pajamas and listening to Ms. Riddle read a story. Oh yes, and don't forget the cookies and milk. Yummy!
